Montco Native, Ex-CIA Agent, Wants To Buy Twitter To Ban Trump

A Montgomery County native is drawing national attention for a campaign to raise $1 billion to buy Twitter and ban President Trump.

Long ago, in the 1980s, she was a graduate of Lower Moreland High School and Penn State. Since then, the Montgomery County native has gone on to have an illustrious career that brought her to the CIA and eventually to nationwide fame after a scandal in 2003 compromised her undercover identity.

Now, Valerie Plame Wilson is using her visibility to raise enough money to buy Twitter so that she can kick off President Trump. The goal is $1 billion.

"Donald Trump has done a lot of horrible things on Twitter," Wilson wrote. "From emboldening white supremacists to promoting violence against journalists, his tweets damage the country and put people in harm's way. But threatening actual nuclear war with North Korea takes it to a dangerous new level. It's time to shut him down."

Wilson has launched a GoFundMe campaign which, as of Monday afternoon, had raised $83,276 out of the $1 billion needed to buy a controlling share of the company.

The campaign has attracted celebrity support, notably from Star Wars actor Mark Hamill.

Wilson, who is married to former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, was at the center of a 2003 press leak by members of the Bush administration which compromised her identity as an undercover CIA officer.

If the required $1 billion is not reached, Wilson says that the funds will be donated to Global Zero, an organization working to end the nuclear threat worldwide.
