"Everyone is entitled to believe what they want," Babb stated on Wednesday. "First of all, these checks were written to family members., when I was undergoing a mental health crisis and didn't have the right medication. And my family didn't want to press charges, but the DA pursued charges anyway. I am just a local resident trying my best to handle my health issues and learn from my mistakes. But as I said, you are welcome to think what you want."
Babb's attorney, Gail Marr, said in a statement to Action News 6 that her client "has been dealing with both financial and mental health issues and was hospitalized after these alleged transactions occurred."
Hatboro Detective Sgt. Conner Dilks told Action News that the case began in July when Hatboro Federal Savings contacted police about two bounced checks.
According to Dilks, Babb initially told detectives "she was expecting a large settlement from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and that was for a malpractice lawsuit regarding one of her children."
Dilks said the story changed when police followed up. Police later executed a search warrant and found two additional fraudulent checks.
