Mosquito Tests Positive For West Nile Virus In Horsham
It's among the first positive samples found in Montgomery County thus far in 2018.

HORSHAM, PA — A mosquito has tested positive for West Nile Virus in Horsham Township. It's the first positive sample found in the township in 2018.
The mosquito was found in Maple Park in Meetinghouse Village, the township confirmed. The positive sample was announced on Thursday afternoon.
2018 has been a comparatively quiet summer for West Nile Virus in the county thus far. This sample is just the second positive sample found in Montgomery County this year, according to Pennsylvania Department of Health records.

The risk of being infected with West Nile from a mosquito is very low, officials said, but residents are still urged to take simple precautions, like using repellent and removing standing water from their property.
West Nile Virus typically causes fever but can lead to neurological illness in extremely rare cases.
