New Details Emerge On Hatboro Apartment Fire

Two residents and two cats were rescued from a second-floor South York Road apartment early last Thursday, the Hatboro fire marshal said.

HATBORO, PA —The borough's Fire Marshal has released details of a fire that damaged a second-floor apartment on South York Road early Thursday morning in which .

Hatboro Fire Marshal Kate Valesky said that at 1 a.m. Thursday, the Enterprise Fire Company, mutual aid fire companies, the Hatboro Police Department, and the fire marshal responded to 132 S. York Rd. for the report of smoke in the area.

A 911 caller had reported that an apartment was on fire and people were trapped inside. The call was upgraded to a commercial building fire by the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, the fire marshal said.

Arriving crews found the fire in the rear of the apartment with two people inside trying to rescue pets, the fire marshal said.

Horsham firefighters arrived and began search and rescue efforts. Two residents and one cat were rescued from the second floor.

Hatboro and Horsham firefighters extinguished the blaze, the fire marshal said.

After the fire was brought under control, firefighters assisted the residents in finding another cat unharmed.

No injuries were reported to residents, pets, or firefighters, the fire marshal said. The Red Cross assisted the displaced residents.

The building sustained significant exterior damage and moderate interior damage, the fire marshal said.

The Lower Moreland fire marshal, Abington fire marshal, Cheltenham fire marshal, Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal, and the Hatboro Police Department assisted with the investigation.

As of this time, the cause of the fire has yet to be determined, the fire marshal said.

Among the mutual aid companies were the Warrington Fire Company, Ivyland Fire Company, Warminster Fire Company, Hartsville Fire Company, Abington Fire Company, Jenkintown Fire Company, Bryn Athyn Fire Company, Horsham Fire Company, Roslyn Fire Company, Upper Moreland Fire Department, the Lower Moreland fire marshal, Abington fire marshal, Cheltenham fire marshal, Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal, Hatboro Fire Police, Horsham Fire Police, Upper Moreland Police Department, and EMS personnel from Second Alarmer's Rescue Squad.
