Noise Ordinance Adopted In Horsham Township
The Horsham Township Council held a public hearing last week after receiving numerous complaints about loud noise.

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — If you want to make a lot of noise in the township, don't be surprised if the police department shows up at your door.
The Horsham Township Council approved a comprehensive noise ordinance following a public hearing about the issue at its meeting last Wednesday.
The ordinance was pitched after township officials received numerous complaints about loud music late at night.

"The Horsham Township Council finds that excessive noise can be a serious hazard to the public health, welfare, safety and quality of life and that the public has a right to, and should be ensured of, an environment free of excessive noise," the ordinance states.
"The Horsham Township Council finds that excessive levels of sound are detrimental to the physical, mental and social well-being of the residents as well as to their comfort, living conditions, general welfare and safety, and being therefore a public health and welfare hazard," the ordinance states.

The noise ordinance defines time periods during the weekdays and nights and also weekend days and nights and sets limits on the volume of noise that can be produced during those different times.
The Horsham Township Police Department will be equipped with monitors that will measure the volume, officials said.
Anyone who violates the ordinance is subject to a $500 fine to be collected by summary offense in addition to court costs and attorneys' fees.
For each 24-hour period that a violation exists or continues, a new and separate offense shall be deemed to have been committed, the ordinance states.
