Officer Promoted To Sergeant In Hatboro

Alex Bruckner fills the vacancy in the Hatboro Police Department created when Mark Ruegg was promoted to deputy police chief.

HATBORO, PA —The Hatboro Borough Police Department has filled a vacancy in its ranks.

Police Officer Alex Bruckner was promoted to sergeant at Monday's Borough Council meeting, filling the opening created when Mark Ruegg was promoted to deputy police chief.

Police Chief James Gardner told the council and audience that Bruckner had recently completed the sergeant's promotional test. The council unanimously approved his promotion.

Bruckner is a recipient of the police department's highest award. He received the award of merit in 2021.

Bruckner joined the police department in 2010 following his service in the U.S. Army as a combat engineer which also included combat tours of duty in Iraq.

Bruckner is a Hatboro-Horsham High School graduate who holds a degree in criminal justice and has attended many police training schools over the years. He has also served as a power shift/traffic safety officer.

Bruckner is also a member and supervisor of the police department's bike patrol unit. He has also served as an officer in charge of his given shift.

Bruckner's wife held the Bible as his three children looked on while he was sworn in by Mayor Tim Schultz.

Several police officers and family attended the promotion ceremony and Bruckner received a round of applause from Borough Council members once the oath of office was completed.
