HATBORO, PA —The Hatboro Borough Police Department has hired a new police officer and also promoted two officers who have been on the force for six years each up its ranks.

At the recent Borough Council meeting, Police Chief James Gardner announced the hiring of Police Officer Tristan Kimball and the promotions of Aaron Simon and Conner Dilks to sergeant.

Mayor Tim Schultz presented the oath to all three officers as family members packed the Pennypack auditorium and generated applause after each officer was sworn in.

Kimball joins the police department after being the top candidate on the civil service test for the position of patrol officer, the chief said.

The chief said that Kimball is filling a vacancy created by a retirement in the police department.

Kimball is originally from Texas and is also a U.S. Army veteran. He graduated from the Montgomery County Municipal Police Academy in March after undergoing 12 weeks of training.

Simon joined the police department in January 2017 after serving with the Hazleton Police Department, the chief said.

The U.S. Air Force veteran serves as a member of the Montgomery County SWAT East Region and holds a criminal justice degree from the Community College of the Air Force.

The chief said that Simon received the top score on the recent civil service testing process for sergeant. He had served as a police officer and was the officer-in-charge of the "C-Squad" since January.

Dilks joined Hatboro Police in August 2017 after earning a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Gwynedd Mercy University.

Dilks has served as a detective and will now oversee that unit and coordinate criminal investigations and certain administrative tasks in his new role as detective sergeant, Gardner said.

He is a member of the Montgomery County's Drug Task Force and Gun Violence Reduction Task Force.

Dilks also serves as the department's First Aid and CPR instructor, the chief said.

During the swearing-in ceremonies, all of the officers were presented with their new badges.

"These two officers were all deemed well-qualified for the promotions," Gardner said.

The Borough Council unanimously approved the appointments.
