HATBORO, PA —Two borough businesses are teaming up for a benefit in remembrance of fallen Police Officer Ryan Allen.

Proceeds will go toward the Hatboro Borough Police Department K9 Unit in remembrance of Allen, who died from a bee sting a little more than a year ago.

The food truck for the event will be Thai JaeDee and the police department will be on hand to greet those in attendance.

Allen, a police officer since 2013, died on April 7, 2022, six months after having a heart attack following a freak bee sting incident.

Allen never had allergic reactions to bees and had been stung before. But in October 2021, he experienced an anaphylactic shock from a bee sting and suffered a heart attack. He never recovered.

His widow Whitney Allen shared her thoughts with Patch about the anniversary.

She's written a 154-page book, "Running in Trauma Stilettos: A Raw Glimpse at Grief and Life After Loss," that was released in late February. In the book, she shares her grief with others so they possibly can move on.

Allen also provides grief counseling for women and widows and has launched a website to offer support.

"It is Ryan's birthday _ what would have been his 37th birthday," Whitney Allen told Patch Tuesday. "I'm happy they are doing an event in his honor to benefit the K-9 program he founded. And I'm happy that any proceeds made will go toward Louie and keeping the program going that Ryan fought so hard to create."
