Ryan Allen Plaza Dedication Expected In May In Hatboro
Officials expect the ceremony for the fallen Hatboro police officer to take place during National Police Week.

HATBORO, PA —The dedication to fallen borough police officer Ryan Allen is coming in the next few months.
Cindy Bollendorf, the borough's downtown director, said at Monday night's Borough Council meeting that the Ryan Allen Plazawill be dedicated by officials sometime in May, probably during National Police Week.
"We will pick a day in May," Bollendorf said, adding that the dedication has been delayed by supply chain delivery issues. Officials had previously discussed holding the dedication in September.

Bollendorf has a plaque in her office that will be dedicated to Allen during the ceremony.
In late August, the borough's public works department set up the Ryan Allen Plaza at South York Road near the entrance to the driveway of Produce Junction.

Hatboro officials said the plaza at 49 S. York Rd. comes courtesy of a nearly $40,000 T-Mobile Smart Growth America and Main Street America grant. A check presentation took place last April.
The plaza includes new benches, flowers, the plaque dedicated to Allen, new trash receptacles, and new sidewalks.
Allen, a police officer since 2013 who was the borough's K-9 officer, died on April 7, 2022, six months after having a heart attack following a freak bee sting incident.
Allen never had allergic reactions to bees and had been stung before. But in October 2021, he experienced an anaphylactic shock from a bee sting and suffered a heart attack. He never recovered.
