Skeleton Skurry, Halloween Stroll In Hatboro Saturday

Two big events take place on Saturday along with Prescription Drug Take-Back Day at the Hatboro Police Department.

HATBORO, PA —They are two big borough events, banded together by the Halloween holiday.

On Saturday, Hatboro will hold its 17th annual Skeleton Skurry 5K race followed by another race where children will "stroll" along the business district dressed in costume while doing some trick-or-treating.

The Skeleton Skurry is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with the start and finish of the 5K race at the Pennypack property on 130 Spring Ave.

Motorists should expect temporary road closures, including York Road and streets west of York Road as the racers make their way through the course. Click here for more details about the Skeleton Skurry.

Mayor Tim Schultz told Patch that the race used to be coordinated by the YMCA and that it's now run jointly by the Hatboro Chamber of Commerce, the Hatboro Library, and the Upper Southampton Township Masonic Lodge Post #410.

He said the event will feature food and music with proceeds going toward purchasing AED defibrillators that will be used to supply at three or four different places in the borough.

The main sponsor is the Hatboro Federal Savings Bank, which recently presented a $5,000 check for the event.

The Halloween Stroll will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with participating businesses along the York Road Business District open for trick-or-treaters.

Motorists should be alert for additional pedestrian volume along York Road. This annual event is sponsored by the Greater Hatboro Chamber of Commerce.

Also on Saturday is Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The Hatboro Police Department will serve as a drop-off location for any unwanted, unused, or expired medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents should feel free to stop by the police department where they can safely and securely dispose of these prescription drug items. If you can't make it Saturday, feel free to drop by anytime 24/7 as the police department lobby is equipped with a secure drop box.
