Social Media Shaming Part of Montco's Plan to Track Down Deadbeat Parents

In a push to track down deadbeat parents, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department is turning to social media.

The department announced Monday that it plans to beef up its efforts to find parents who are delinquent on their child support payments by posting their photos online.

Each week, the county sheriff’s department will feature photographs of five new deadbeat parents on its Facebook and Twitter pages, NBC10 reported.

In a news conference Monday, officials said the effort, which began a few weeks ago, has already led to several tips, The Times Herald reported.

Tracking down deadbeat parents is a focus for the county sheriff’s department.

A dozen county sheriff’s office deputies were deployed to several areas in the county with a list of 31 active warrant defendants, who collectively owed $395,117.75 to 60 children.
