Sponsor a Therapy Dog

It's your donation that will allow us to continue to offer these highly trained facility dogs for the benefit of our students.

Meet Lakeside School’s newest staff, Boomerang.

This facility dog engages the students unconditionally and without words, creating a partnership that strengthens the student’s determination to persevere.

Boomerang has been trained by Susquehanna Service Dogs to work with our students in classes and counseling sessions. Four Lakeside staff members have been trained alongside of him and will be visiting classes to introduce him to students. We look forward to sharing stories about how he is helping individual students.

Schools have found that having a dog constantly available allows teachers and staff members to better meet students’ needs, keep them safe, and ease difficult situations. Research has shown that a facility dog can help students improve academic skills, deal with stress, remain calm, overcome depression, and increase social skills. With the assistance of a facility dog, students learn empathy, sharing and patience. Boomerang will help increase attendance and academic productivity, lighten the atmosphere and boost morale.

Our facility dog has gone through a two year service dog training program by a service dog organization. The dog has passed several classes and has been tested on temperament, obedience, social behavior and over 40 different commands. The staff who are working with Boomerang have participated in a two-week training to be certified to work with the dog and to understand all that the dog is able to do with and for our students.
