Standoff Suspect Charged With Terroristic Threats, Assault In Hatboro

Hatboro Police charged ​Raymond J. Begor, 35, of Hatboro Wednesday in the 14-hour standoff that shut schools and the business district.

HATBORO, PA —A 35-year-old Hatboro man has been charged in last week's 14-hour standoff in the borough's downtown business district, police said.

Raymond J. Begor, 35, of the first block of N. York Road, faces charges of simple assault, terroristic threats, possessing instruments of crime, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest following the standoff which began at 9:17 a.m. Tuesday and ending around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Police Chief James Gardner said Wednesday.

Witnesses had reported that Begor was pointing what appeared to be a handgun at motorists on North York Road. He then went into his apartment where police attempted to make contact with him for hours to no avail, the chief said.

Ultimately, members of regional SWAT teams took Begor into custody and police executed a search warrant on the apartment, the chief said.

The standoff shut Hatboro-Horsham schools for the day and also closed the borough's business district for several hours Wednesday.

Pursuant to procedures set forth under Montgomery County’s Pretrial Services Program, Begor was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Harry J. Nesbitt, III of Horsham on Wednesday.

Bail was set at $50,000 cash.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 9, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Paul N. Leo in Hatboro.
