State Wrestling Champion 1st In 4 Decades For Hatboro-Horsham

The Hatboro-Horsham School District recently honored several standout athletes, including wrestling champion Dominick Morrison.

HATBORO / HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —The Hatboro-Horsham School District is recognizing some top athletes who achieved some top performances.

Schools Superintendent Scott Eveslage noted the performances of several students who achieved some level of success that the school district hasn't witnessed in decades, including one in 40 years.

In wrestling, freshman Dominick Morrison captured the state AAA championship at 107 lbs. with a 2-1 victory in the finals. It was H-H’s first state wrestling championship since 1975, Eveslage said.

He faced Cedar Cliff High School freshman Aiden Herndon (40-5) in the finals.

With a record of 46-2 on his freshman campaign, (which includes 15 tech falls and 14 falls) Morrison became the first PIAA AAA finalist for Hatboro-Horsham since HOF Coach Ralph Wetzel had Dennis Merriam in the 1976 finals.

Eveslage also recognized other standout performances at the recent Hatboro-Horsham School Board meeting:

  • In girls swimming, Annie Jia was named swimmer of the meet after she captured four gold medals at the PIAA state swimming championships. She captured individual crowns in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly in which she set a state record with a time of 51.26 seconds. Jia also grabbed gold in two relays, the 200 free relay with teammates Eloise Mothersbaugh, Emmie Erikson, and Sarah Parker,and the 400 free relay with teammates Erikson, Megan Luddecke, and Parker.
  • In indoor track, the 4 X 200 relay team of Kyle Sergio, Owen Nugent, Luke Weiss, and Christian Patelmo took fifth place in the Emerging Elite Division at the Nike Indoor National Meet at the Armory in New York City.
