Trash Truck Catches Fire In Hatboro

Hatboro's Public Works Department was able to contain the blaze before the vehicle suffered significant damage Monday, officials said.

HATBORO, PA —A borough trash truck caught fire Monday but the blaze was contained before it could cause significant damage, borough officials said.

Borough officials said a small fire took place in the rear of the borough's trash truck Monday morning while crews were performing their regular collection duties.

The expertise of the Hatboro Public Works Department spared the truck from severe damage as crews were able to quickly and efficiently dump the trash and extinguish the fire, borough officials said.

Officials are reminding residents that hazardous waste of any kind cannot be placed in their trash or recycling.

This includes but is not limited to lithium batteries, flammables, aerosols, fuel, and more.

The items cause a huge health and safety risk for public works personnel collecting refuse and for the environment when not disposed of properly, officials said.

The Borough is working to determine the cause of the fire and where the hazardous waste originated from.

In the meantime, officials want to remind residents of the importance of correctly disposing of hazardous waste.
