HATBORO / HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —The state representatives of Hatboro and Horsham Township are expressing their sorrow on the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.

"My heart aches for former President Trump and all those who were injured both physically and mentally by the egregious actions of the shooter in Butler County," said State Rep. Melissa Cerrato, who represents Horsham Township.

Trump was slightly injured in Saturday's shooting at the rally in Butler, about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh. A spectator was killed and two others were critically wounded. U.S. Secret Service agents shot and killed the shooter, identified early Sunday as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of the Pittsburgh suburb of Bethel Park.

"Violence is never the answer," said State Rep. Nancy Guenst, who represents Hatboro.

The Secret Service quickly killed Crooks, who was firing from atop a nearby building, while the Pennsylvania State Police attended to the spectators.

"We must condemn all acts of gun violence and violence in general," Cerrato said. "We must do better to create a world where our children can go to an event without being fearful for their lives. We MUST find civility even in disagreement and we must do better to love one another despite our differences. We must do better!"

The Republican National Convention begins in Milwaukee on Monday night.

"We pray for the former president, we pray for those injured, and we thank our first responders for again rushing into danger," Guenst said. "God bless those impacted and God bless the United States of America."
