HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —It was a water main break for the record books.

The Horsham Water and Sewer Authority told Horsham ChATs that Wednesday night's water main break on Route 611 Southbound (Easton Road) around Horsham Road "may be the largest main break in their history."

The water main break caused havoc for motorists and residents.

Streets were closed and detours were set up as crews worked throughout the evening to make repairs. Meanwhile, residents in the eastern section of the township dealt with low water pressure and water discoloration.

Route 611 southbound reopened Thursday night, earlier than an anticipated midnight opening, township officials said.

"We thank the HWSA staff, the Horsham Police Department, the Public Works Department, all the contractors, and everyone else involved with getting the water main repaired and Route 611 back open," township officials said. "We also thank the residents and businesses directly affected who had no water service. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Thank you to the motorists who patiently and politely maneuvered through the detour and traffic."

Township officials or the HWSA have not stated what caused the water main break.

Horsham Community Police Services said the area was quite a mess for some time.

"We would like to take a moment and thank all those who helped restore our water service and repair the damage to Easton Road," Horsham ChATs said. "You worked day and night to help us and we are so very appreciative."
