Wawa Closing After 25 Years In Hatboro

HATBORO, PA —The borough won't be bookended by Wawa convenience stores.

The Wawa convenience store on 50 N. York Rd. will be replaced by a Wawa super convenience store at 412 S. York Rd. at its corner with Horsham Road.

The Wawa store posted a notice on the front door that it was shutting the location that's been a mainstay in Hatboro for more than 25 years.

The sign directs customers to the new borough location, which has its grand opening Thursday morning.

The grand opening of the 5,585-square-foot convenience store takes place at 7:45 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The ceremony is open to the public.

Wawa, Inc., said that local friends and neighbors are invited at 7:45 a.m. to join General Manager Robert Hatch, who will do the honors of counting down the moment when the doors open at 8 a.m. for the very first time.

The first 100 customers through the door on November 2nd will receive a limited-edition “Wawa Coffee, Hoagies & Kindness” T-shirt while supplies last. All customers can enjoy free coffee as well.

The store has caused controversy for years after the borough lost a court battle to try and prevent it.

The borough council also recently rejected a proposal by Wawa to sell liquor in the store. The new Wawa will be selling gas.
