Wawa Submits Application To Build In Hatboro

Could a Wawa be on its way to Hatboro?

HATBORO, PA -- Could a Wawa be on its way to Hatboro?

The popular and widely growing convenience store, sandwich shop, and gas station has been eyeing up the property on the corner of York Road and Horsham Road for years.

The controversial plan has been discussed on and off for several years.

On Thursday, Wawa took a firm step forward to revive the project, filing an application with Hatboro's Zoning Hearing Board, the borough said.

Officials said that they are now advertising an upcoming hearing on the issue and notifying neighboring property owners in accordance with zoning regulations.

The hearing will take place on Wednesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at borough hall. The hearing is open to the public.

The original plan did not get off the ground after staunch protests in 2012 by residents who were upset about increased traffic, the impact on neighbors who lived just feet away, and the historic buildings on the property that the proposal demanded be torn down.

Officials said that the borough council would discuss the issue at their upcoming meeting on Monday, March 13.
