HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —The West Moreland Avenue Project is moving along.

The Horsham Township Council last week unanimously accepted a bid of $2.2 million by Scott Building Corp. for traffic signal and road improvements to the intersection of West Moreland Avenue and Route 611 (Easton Road).

Some of the project is funded by $21 million the Military Installation Remediation and Infrastructure Authority recently received, said Larry Burns, the township's director of community and economic development.

The project realigns the intersection and moves it east somewhat, to provide safer access to the intersection, and installs a 4-way traffic control signal at the intersection.

Additionally, it will give access to Tinius Olsen employees, suppliers, and visitors to their property through the 4th leg of the intersection which long-term, is also where a cut-through road through the base is expected to be connected, Burns said.

The total project is just over $2.2 million and is expected to go to construction this summer.

MIRIA has previously designated funding for various traffic and transportation studies, the original purchase of the 986 Easton Road (Grandma’s Grotto) property, engineering costs of the intersection improvement project, and the purchase of the 100 Easton Road (Adam’s Pit Stop) property.

Last week, the structure at 100 Easton Road was demolished, and Horsham Township has underway (with the help of MIRIA grant funding) engineering for the Blair Mill Road widening project, Phase 3, that will enlarge and improve through-flow at the Blair Mill Road and Easton Road intersection.

Construction of that project is expected in 2025 or 2026, Burns said.
