West Nile Virus Found In Tested Hatboro Mosquito
Hatboro officials urge residents to maintain their properties after a mosquito sample tested positive for the disease.
HATBORO, PA —The sample of a mosquito in the borough has tested positive for the West Nile Virus, borough officials said.
The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services has recently conducted West Nile Virus testing throughout the county, borough officials said.
During this routine testing, one of the mosquito samples tested in Hatboro Borough was positive for West Nile Virus, officials confirmed.

The Montgomery County Office of Public Health will continue to monitor the area to determine whether adult mosquito control is recommended within Hatboro, officials said.
Borough officials are asking residents to maintain their properties in a manner that is not conducive to mosquito breeding. Officials have mentioned at recent Borough Council meetings about the fire marshal warning some residents about the grass on their lawns being too high.

Residents are also asked to forward all mosquito complaints directly to the County's Health Department Offices as they arise.
The West Nile Virus can be transmitted from the bite of an infected mosquito. The virus usually can cause mild, flu-like symptoms but also life-threatening illnesses, such as encephalitis, meningitis, or meningoencephalitis.
The Montgomery County Department of Health recommends that residents drain standing water, dress for dawn and dusk, and wear insect repellant if outdoors for a long period of time.
