Winds Cause Electrical Fires, Downed Lines In Horsham

Several roads in Horsham were closed on Monday due to downed trees and power lines.

HORSHAM, PA — Multiple reports of downed power lines, some of them causing electrical fires, came in Sunday night and Monday in Horsham as the area was battered by heavy winds.

Early Monday morning, Horsham Police and other emergency services responded to two electrical fires. The first was near Witmer and Dresher roads and the second was on the 600 block of Mann Road.

Mann Road was closed while crews responded to clear the wires and downed trees.

Then, shortly before 10 a.m., northbound Limekiln Pike, at Horsham Road and southbound Limekiln Pike, at Fairway, were closed due to more downed power lines. Motorists were advised to avoid the area.

In nearby Warminster, Street Road was shut down due to a pole in danger of falling and, as in Hatboro and Horsham, dozens of addresses were without power, including the municipal building.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say the raging winds, which have gusted higher than 50 mph in the Philadelphia region, will continue throughout the day Monday. Monday afternoon, a high wind warning had been extended to 9 p.m.

Gusts of up to 60 mph are possible Monday, the NWS said.
