Wissahickon Grad Falls to Death Taking Photo From Philly High Rise

Rebecca Kim, 18, a first-year student at Temple University, died after falling from the eighth story of a Center City building.

A Wissahickon High School graduate fell to her death attempting to take photographs from a Philadelphia high rise Thursday evening.

Rebecca Kim, 18, a first-year student at Temple University, died after falling from a Center City building, the college confirmed in a statement.

Police told the Philadelphia Inquirer that witnesses saw her climb onto the ledge of a window on the eighth story of a building at 16th and Chestnut streets to take a photograph just before falling. She was visiting friends at the apartment, an Art Institute of Philadelphia dormitory, the Inquirer reported.

Kim suffered head injuries and died shortly after the fall, the New York Daily News reported. Police said during the fall, she hit and critically injured a pedestrian. The 44-year-old woman is expected to survive, the Daily News reported.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends,” Temple University President Neil D. Theobald said in a statement.
