ICE Has Been 'Targeting' Montgomery Co. Town, Mayor Says

Officials are fearful recent activities in the area will make some residents hesitant to call 911 in an emergency.

SOUDERTON, PA — After numerous incidents of ICE activity around the Souderton area in recent weeks, the mayor said this week that the borough has been "targeted."

Mayor Dan Yocum reiterated the borough's stance that Souderton police officers will not prevent ICE from carrying out their duties, but also will not assist ICE beyond incidents involving officer safety.

"As you know by now, I do not typically engage in national political discussions, as usually they have no bearing on our immediate community," Yocum said. "But this divisive issue has been brought to our doorstep, so as Mayor you should know where I stand, whether you agree or not. Though this issue has nothing to do with anything we discuss at the Borough level, it matters now."

Yocum said he fears recent events might cause residents to hesitate calling 911 in an emergency, because they don't trust authorities.

The borough's official ICE policy was released in Nov. 2025. It's nearly identical to what was released by many municipalities and counties throughout southeastern Pennsylvania: police will enforce all valid criminal warrants presented by ICE, but not on any civil or administrative warrant.

Several April encounters with ICE around Souderton and the nearby area were well publicized on social media, sparking more fear in the community.

"As far as I’m concerned, in Souderton, being a good neighbor is what matters most," Yocum added. "Not your immigration status. Not your race. Not your religion. Not your gender, your orientation, your income, your abilities, or your political party. If you show up for your neighbors, if you contribute to this community, if you care about this town—YOU ARE WELCOME HERE. In the Souderton that I know and love, THAT is what matters most."

The incidents have led activists to urge municipalities to adopt welcoming policies that have stronger measures to limit ICE activity.

ICE has not made public comment on any of its recent enforcement actions in Souderotn.
