TOWAMENCIN, PA — The North Penn School District will hold a Pride flag raising ceremony next week at the start of Pride Month.
The event will be held on June 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Educational Services Center, located on 401 E. Hancock Street.
This is the sixth annual year of North Penn's flag raising ceremony.
"The flag will remain up for the duration of June to celebrate the history, contributions, and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning/queer (LGBTQ) individuals," the district shared in a statement.
Officials said the North Penn administration, school board members, and students in the North Penn High School club Rainbow Alliance would all be in attendance.
June 1 is the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which took place in New York in June 1969 and are widely seen as a catalyst for the LGBTQ movement.
