LANSDALE, PA — Lansdale will now start charging electric vehicles for using the charging stations posted around the borough, one of a series of changes officials say are aimed at improving fairness and long term availability of the service.
Vehicles will be charged 22 cents per kWh. They may stay at the charging station for five minutes after the charge is complete, but after that, they will incur fees of 10 cents per minute.
Overnight parking at the stations will not be permitted. And the borough says that the new rules will be enforced.
To pay, users must download the Tesla app.
Officials cited increased demand and implied some ongoing abuse of the spaces as parking spots.
"These updates are intended to reduce station congestion, discourage long-term parking misuse and ensure equitable access for all EV drivers," the borough said in a statement.
The borough has charging stations at the Borough Hall Lot, Vine Street Lot, W. Main Street Lot, Madison Lot, and Electric Services Building.
