LANSDALE, PA — Lansdale has announced a major change to traffic regulations, lowering the speed limit on West Main Street from 35 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour.
The change will be in effect from Valley Forge Road to Cannon Avenue.
Changes were implemented as safety concerns spiked in recent months.
"The reduced speed limit is intended to improve safety for everyone who uses the roadway, including motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists," the borough shared in a statement. "It also better reflects the surrounding residential and commercial character of the corridor."
The lower speeds allow more time for drivers to react to pedestrians and unexpected activity in the roadway, and will reduce the severity of crashes, police said.
New speed limit signs will be installed next week. The speed limit change will officially take effect once they are in place.
