4 Injured In Bristol Township House Fire

Fire crews responded to reports of a house fire with someone trapped in the basement at 5:09 a.m. on Wednesday.

BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, PA — Four members of a Bristol Township family have been hospitalized and three were being treated for burns after an early morning house fire, according to officials.

Firefighters responded at 5:09 a.m. to a report of a fire in the 1100 block of Edgely Road with someone trapped in the basement, said Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito.

When fire crews arrived, three people were outside the home and a fourth was found standing in the home's rear doorway, Dippolito said. He said police officers rescued that person, who was handed over to paramedics.

Dippolito said the fire started on a couch in the home's basement and that, when crews arrived, the basement, first and second floors all were engulfed in flames.

All four family members were taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital by paramedics from Levittown-Fairless Hills and Penndel-Middletown rescue squads. Three of the four were transferred to Jefferson's burn unit, Dippolito said.

Fire companies responding were Edgely, Levittown No. 2, Third District, Croydon, American Hose Hook & Ladder, Morrisville, Tullytown and Falls Twp. No. 1.

Bensalem EMS was also standing by on scene, Dippolito said.

Fox 29 quoted a neighbor who said she heard knocking on her door early Wednesday and discovered a teen boy, wearing only shorts, asking her to call the fire department. Edgely Fire Chief Brian Cirard told the station that one of the family's three dogs was running in and out of the home and was rescued by firefighters.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation. There were no reports Wednesday morning as to the severity of the family's injuries.
