BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, PA — With the township bogged down by bridge issues over the past few years, a solution may be coming.

U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has secured a $5 million federal grant to advance planning and engineering for a long-term bridge and transportation solution.

The funding will help resolve the infrastructure and traffic challenges highlighted by the nearly two-year closure of the Randall Avenue Bridge.

"Reopening the Randall Avenue Bridge was essential, but it was never the finish line," Fitzpatrick said. "The closure exposed a larger challenge for Bristol Township: strained local roads, heavy commercial traffic moving through residential neighborhoods, and serious concerns about reliable access for our first responders."

He said the bridge closure showed how critical reliable infrastructure is to residents, businesses, and emergency services.

The funding will support the evaluation and development of potential infrastructure improvements to provide safer, more reliable transportation connections for residents, businesses, and emergency responders.

Potential approaches include a proposed Haines Road Bridge connecting Haines Road across the railway corridor to North Radcliffe Street, as well as potential improvements to the Randall Avenue Bridge, the congressman said.

Fitzpatrick worked with township leaders to help restore access to the Randall Avenue Bridge, which reopened in January 2026.

"While reopening the bridge was an important accomplishment, our focus has always been on finding a permanent, long-term solution that improves public safety, accommodates commercial traffic, and reduces the impact of heavy vehicles traveling through our residential neighborhoods," Fitzpatrick said.

Township Manager Randee J. Mazur said the funding will help the township with the planning and engineering to evaluate the proposed Haines Road Bridge and develop a transportation solution "that will benefit our community for generations to come."
