ICE Walkout By Pennsbury High Students On Friday

FAIRLESS HILLS, PA — Pennsbury High School students are planning a walkout on Friday to protest ICE activity in Minnesota and elsewhere.

Schools Superintendent Thomas A. Smith and High School Campus Principal Reggie Meadows sent an email to the Pennsbury High School community about the walkout on Friday.

School officials said students are organizing the walkout in protest of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tactics.

"Our building administrators met with our student leaders to review their plans and ensure we can uphold our students' rights while protecting their safety," school officials said.

While plans are still being finalized, students plan to "assemble and peacefully protest" for 20 minutes at an outdoor space on PHS's campus, after which they are expected to return to class, school officials said.

School officials said that no walkouts are expected to be staged at the middle school and elementary school levels.

"This is a student-centered event, and we ask that parents and community members not visit the school grounds during the walkout," school officials said.

The Falls Township Police Department will be on site to provide an added level of safety.

"As a district, we recognize and support the rights of our students to peacefully assemble," school officials said. "Students who participate appropriately will not be disciplined. Additionally, building leaders will ensure that students are not forced to participate."
