LANGHORNE, PA — A Neshaminy school hosted two legendary college basketball coaches who made their mark in the Philadelphia region.
Legendary Philadelphia basketball coaches Fran Dunphy and Phil Martelli visited Poquessing Middle School on Monday to speak with 7th and 8th graders.
Both coaches are considered among the greatest ever to coach Philadelphia area college teams, but their message went far beyond sports.
Through their work with the American Cancer Society, the two coaches have dedicated decades to supporting individuals and families impacted by cancer, raising millions of dollars and helping provide critical resources for those in need.
During the assembly, students heard powerful, real-life stories that focused on the importance of character, resilience, teamwork, and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Dunphy holds the record for the most career wins (625) by a coach in Philadelphia Big 5 history and has coached three of the six member schools in the city series.
He served as the head coach at the University of Pennsylvania for 17 seasons, Temple University for 13 seasons, and La Salle University for three seasons.
Martelli Sr. has recently served as the associate head coach for the Michigan Wolverines. He's the former head coach of the St. Joseph's Hawks, leading the team to seven NCAA Tournaments.
