BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The long-awaited grand opening of the permanent home for the county's African American Museum is targeted for next month, its capital campaign chairwoman said.

Patricia Mervine said that the new African American Museum of Bucks County is just one month away from its grand opening at its permanent home at the 1716 farmhouse in Langhorne.

"We couldn't be more excited," Mervine said. "Its lovely setting along Core Creek will only be surpassed by the seven gorgeous rooms and four additional display areas that will highlight the African American journey through Bucks County’s history, from the 1600s through today."

State Rep. Joe Hogan recently did an early walkthrough of the soon-to-be-opened museum.

"The site is coming along, and major construction should be finished in the spring with a formal opening to follow shortly."

Hogan said more information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Mervine said that transforming the colonial-era farmhouse has been a $6 million undertaking.

"Through grants, corporate support, membership dues, and generous donations from hundreds of individuals of all backgrounds, we have been able to raise 95 percent of our goal," Mervine said. "We just need that last 5 percent to push us over the top."

Donations to the Building Fund can be made by credit card, Venmo, or PayPal through the secure portal at https://www.aamuseumbucks.org/capital-campaign. Just click the DONATE button.
