BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, PA — Two firearms were found after two high school-aged juveniles snuck backpacks into the stadium of Truman High School's home football game on Friday, police said.
Bristol Township Police Chief C.J. Winik said that during the game that two high school-aged juveniles attempted to enter the stadium with backpacks, contrary to the school district's "No Backpack" policy and were turned away.
They later entered the event after apparently concealing the backpacks on school property, the police chief said.
He said that school personnel located the backpacks and found marijuana and two firearms after searching them.
The firearms were immediately secured, appropriate
safety procedures were implemented, and the two juveniles were identified and taken into custody, the police chief said.
Winik said that the firearms were never discharged, no threats were reported, and no one was injured in the incident.
He said the district's "No Backpack" policy worked as intended, and the awareness and actions of school personnel helped prevent what could have become a far more serious situation.
"This incident demonstrates exactly why established security procedures, attentive school personnel, and a strong working relationship between our schools and law enforcement are
so important," Winik said.
The Bristol Township Police Department thanked the Bristol
Township School District administration, staff, and security personnel "for their vigilance and quick action."
"We especially want to thank the school administrators, staff, and security personnel who recognized the behavior and took immediate action," said Winik, while also commending Police Officers Jen Jacker and Dan Ragan for their professionalism, calm response, and work throughout the evening.
Police encourage students, parents, and community members to continue reporting anything that appears suspicious or raises a school safety concern.
