6th Senate District Candidates Square Off In Debate

Republican incumbent Sen. Frank Farry faces Democrat Eileen Albillar in next Tuesday's general election.

LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The League of Women Voters hosted a candidates debate between Republican incumbent Sen. Frank Farry and challenger Eileen Albillar.

Both candidates are battling to represent residents in the 6th Senate District in the Nov. 3 general election.

The forum —livestreamed on the League's Facebook page — gave voters the chance to hear how both candidates feel about the issues in their district and the state.

The debate was held last Wednesday at Bucks County Community College.

The two candidates have slugged it out on television with both going at one another as the campaigns wind down.

During the debate, Farry touted his record of delivering for the community.

That record includes 55 bipartisan bills signed into law, seven tax cuts, record school funding, efforts to hold Big Tech accountable, push for utility companies to lower costs, and a plan to fund SEPTA.

Farry's campaign said that Albillar struggled to explain aspects of the legislative process and respond to questions about key policy issues.

Meanwhile, Albillar — the Bucks County Clerk of Courts —has questioned Farry on Facebook, stating that he sold out by accepting $5 million from a billionaire who wants to privatize public education.

Farry said he will continue to pursue property tax relief for seniors, reduced electricity costs, and a higher minimum wage, now at $7.24 an hour.

By moving Pennsylvania out of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and stopping PECO's proposed rate increases, he said, the Senate has saved many residents $1,100 annually on their electricity bills.

Albillar also wants to increase the minimum wage and slammed Farry for not accomplishing it during his 18-year career in the legislature.

She also said she wants to "fully fund public schools… instead of siphoning off to other private schools and tax credits," she said. She also would ensure "sustainable long-term funding for SEPTA and mass transit."

During the debate, Farry challenged Albillar on her record or legislative proposals she chose to not use her allotted time to rebut Farry's claims.

The issues challenged included energy costs, affordability, public education funding, and untruthful claims she has made about Farry relating to data centers.

Questions about affordability and Albillar's record as a Warrington Township Supervisor also highlighted significant differences between the candidates.
