MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The new African American Museum of Bucks County is adding a center.
U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has secured $2 million in federal funding to establish the African American Community Center of Bucks County.
The funding will complete the restoration and expansion of Boone Farm by transforming the historic space into a center of education, cultural preservation, dialogue, civic engagement, and fellowship.
Fitzpatrick said the center comes from the legacy of the late Linda Salley, the AAMBC's late president and executive director.
The congressman said her vision, leadership, and dedication helped transform a traveling museum into a permanent institution dedicated to preserving the stories and contributions of African Americans throughout Bucks County.
"This mission is especially personal to me as I honor the legacy of my late mother, Linda Salley," her daughter Noelle Salley said. "While we have made meaningful progress, there is still more work to be done, including the restoration and preservation of the carriage house and addressing road safety to ensure that the property can be safely accessed and enjoyed by the community. I look forward to strengthening our partnerships with local, state, and federal leaders and working together to secure the funding and resources necessary to bring this vision to fruition."
Fitzpatrick said the funding will carry on Salley's vision and that of his late brother Mike Fitzpatrick, who also shared a deep commitment to preserving the community's history and strengthening the institutions that bring people together.
"We are restoring Historic Boone Farm into a community center where neighbors of every background can come together to learn, celebrate, and build together," he said. "We are ensuring that the African American Community Center of Bucks County has a home worthy of the history it preserves and the generations it will inspire."
