Black Bear Crashes College Party In Pennsylvania

A black bear was tranquilized after stumbling up to a party near Lehigh University and scaring 'the living daylights out of people.

A very hairy, 400-pound guest crashed a college party near Lehigh University early Saturday.

A black bear, which had been spotted on campus Friday, stumbled up to a college party in Bethlehem and “scared the living daylights out of people,” police Chief Mark DiLuzio said, according to NBC10.

The uninvited party guest arrived around 2 a.m. near Fifth Street, the Morning Call reported.

Police responded to the scene and chased the bear up a tree, the Morning Call said.

Tyler Kreider, a Pennsylvania Game Commission district officer, was called in and the bear was reportedly tranquilized. The bear remains in the game commission’s custody as of Saturday, The Philadelphia Inquirer said.

No injuries were reported.

A tattoo located on the bear’s inner lip indicated it was a New Jersey native, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Kreider told the publication the bear most likely swam across the Delaware River.

The bear had been spotted on campus Friday around 2:45 p.m., Lehigh University officials said. “Bear sighted on Goodman Campus, 2:45PM. Avoid Lehigh’s Goodman Campus. Police & Gaming officials on site,” the university’s Facebook page said.
