LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA —The new bridge on Trenton Road over Interstate 295 is now named in honor of fallen soldier and Neshaminy High School graduate Army Staff Sgt. Jae S. Moon.

On Friday morning, the bridge was dedicated to Moon, who was killed in action while serving in Iraq in 2006.

The bridge was recently replaced, and State Rep. Joe Hogan introduced legislation to name the new span for Moon.

Senate Bill 621 passed with bipartisan support and was signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro, officially renaming the Trenton Road Bridge in Middletown Township after Moon. The ceremony was attended by many veterans and dignitaries.

“I am pleased to announce the governor has signed Senate Bill 621 into law,” Hogan said. “I’ve known about Jae’s life and service for a long time, that is why I made it a priority that he is recognized and his memory forever honored. This is one way to do so.”

Moon was born in South Korea in 1985 but spent most of his life as a Pennsylvania resident. He graduated from Neshaminy High School in 2003 and enlisted in the U.S. Army.

His dream was to use the GI bill and ultimately become an FBI agent, Hogan said.

On Dec. 25, 2006, Moon died due to injuries received when an IED detonated near his vehicle.

He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Moon is the only Middletown Township resident killed in action during the Global War on Terror.

The renamed bridge will now be recognized as the Staff Sgt. Jae S. Moon Memorial Bridge.

Senate Bill 621 is an omnibus piece of legislation that incorporates a variety of standalone designations. House Bill 1711, Hogan’s standalone legislation, was incorporated into Senate Bill 621 by amendment.

“Staff Sgt. Moon gave his life while defending our country,” Hogan said. “I am proud to see Senate Bill 621 signed into law so we can honor Staff Sgt. Moon and his sacrifice.”

U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick said that Moon died on Christmas 2006 during his second tour. He was 21 years old.

While we continue to mourn this profound loss alongside the Moon family, SSG Moon's legacy of patriotism and selflessness will forever endure and serve as an everlasting source of inspiration," Fitzpatrick said. "Today, we honored his legacy with the renaming and dedication of the Trenton Road Bridge to the Staff Sergeant (SSG) Jae S. Moon Memorial Bridge. Please join me in thanking SSG Moon's family for his service and sacrifice and extending to them our condolences, gratitude, and prayers."
