Bristol Twp. School District Educators Present Around the Community

Administrators and staff showcased their leadership throughout the community by participating in professional development initiatives.

Bristol Township School District administrators and staff have been showcasing their leadership throughout the community by participating in professional development initiatives.

Al Oberman, Director of Student Services at Bristol Township School District, presented during the Special Services Academy at Monmouth University on the topic of school refusal on December 5.
The Special Services Academy is an opportunity for dialogue and an exchange of ideas and experiences for Directors of Special Services, Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultants, School Psychologists, School Social Workers, and Speech Language Specialists.

Oberman presented with Alanah Mellin, children’s reference librarian, Holmdel Public Library; Elyse Greenbaum, social worker, Special Services, Mendham Township School District; and Lee Cohen, school psychologist, West Orange Public School District. They spoke on school refusal or when a child refuses to go to school, which is often rooted in fear or anxiety and how to help children overcome this.

Hayden's presentation centered on students as content creators. He shared strategies and technologies that allow for learners to play a more active role in positive behavior support. This included how to empower students to help create a program of the learner, for the learner and by the learner.

In addition to Hayden presenting at the conference, there were 20 teachers and three administrators in attendance to continue learning and bring new information back to the District.
