BRISTOL BOROUGH, PA —Bristol Waterfront Park is an icon of the borough.

But it's also prone to flooding when heavy rains overflow the Delaware River and seep into the park, soaking it and the nearby parking lot until the flooding recedes.

U.S. Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick has secured $500,000 in funding in hopes of preventing some of that damage.

Fitzpatrick (PA-1) said the Community Project Funding (CPF) will improve the quality of life for residents.

The $500,000 in funding is for the Bristol Waterfront Park and Maple Beach Road Improvement Project.

The funding supports renovation improvements to the Bristol Waterfront Park, a beloved community space, that has endured considerable wear from frequent use.

Upgrading the stormwater management system will protect the park from flooding during high tides and storms, preserving its vitality for residents and visitors alike, officials said.

Furthermore, the funding will facilitate the reconstruction of the Maple Beach Bridge over Otter Creek, enhancing access to the Marsh and improving connectivity for Wastewater Treatment Plant employees, ultimately strengthening the community's infrastructure.

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick emphasized the importance of Bristol Borough within the district and his ongoing commitment to fostering its growth.

"Historic Bristol Borough has long been a cornerstone of our PA-1 community. But its recent resurgence as one of the most dynamic and vibrant areas in the region reflects the heart and resilience of its people," the congressman said. "This investment not only enhances the quality of life for residents but also strengthens the borough as a premier destination for visitors. These projects will preserve the borough’s charm while creating new pathways for growth, connection, and opportunity. I look forward to continuing our partnership with local leaders to ensure that Bristol Borough remains a vibrant community for generations to come."

This federal investment, part of the FY22 & FY24 Consolidated Appropriations Act, was championed by Fitzpatrick as part of a broader effort to direct federal resources to key projects and programs that directly benefit Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District.

Through the Community Project Funding Request process for the 118th Congress, which was included in the Fiscal Year 2024 budget, Fitzpatrick successfully secured more than $27.5 million in funding for 14 transformative community projects that will directly benefit First District constituents.

Additionally, Fitzpatrick secured over $19 million in CPF Funding for 13 projects in FY23 and over $6.6 million in CPF funding for 10 projects in FY22.
