Bucks Co. Shop's Sandwich Celebrates Carson Wentz's Return

The "Wentzel Dip Sandwich" celebrates Philly food as well as the Eagles quarterback's North Dakota roots. Sales will benefit charity.

PARKLAND, PA — Hungry Bucks County Eagles fans now have another reason to celebrate the return of quarterback Carson Wentz.

At Jay's Steak and Hoagie Joint in Parkland, they're serving up a sandwich named after the football star, who was under center for the first time this season on Sunday after returning from a knee injury. And, much like Wentz himself, the sandwich will contribute to local charities.

The Wentzel Dip Sandwich, created by shop owner Jay Green, features chicken steak meat, tots, fried cheese curds and the sandwich shop's special beef-bison dip cream cheese spread on a pretzel roll. Green says the sandwich represents Wentz's South Dakota roots as well as the best of Philly.

"I was working behind the grill thinking of new menu items to help support our local food banks when it hit me," Green said. "North Dakota is known for its hearty food, so I played around and created a sandwich that combines the best of Philadelphia and Wentz’s home."

The chicken represents "the Birds," Green said. The tots and cheese curds are a nod to North Dakota — which produced 2.7 billion pounds of potatoes last year. He said he both wanted to celebrate Wentz's contributions on the field and his philanthropic work off of it.

The limited-time sandwich will sell for $11 on Eagles games days for the rest of the season, starting this Sunday, when the Eagles take on the Tennessee Titans. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will go to the ERA Food Pantry in Levittown and the Bucks County Housing Group Food Pantry in Penndel, Green said.

Since he opened, Green says, his customers have helped donate nearly 50,000 pounds of food to nonprofit in Lower Bucks County.
