FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — A man who was shot in the neck last week on Lincoln Highway in Fairless Hills remains hospitalized after undergoing surgery, according to police.

Falls Township Police Chief Nelson Whitney said Monday that the surgery went well. Police have not publicly identified the man, who was shot Tuesday and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The shooting happened at about 3 p.m. Tuesday, at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and North Olds Boulevard, according to police. Police say the victim, who was found by a detective in his vehicle alongside the road in the popular shopping area, was taken to a hospital in Trenton, N.J., then transferred to a hospital in Philadelphia.

On Monday, the search for the shooter continued. Police were not releasing new details about the case, in which authorities initially thought they'd made a quick arrest.

Shortly after the shooting, police say witnesses directed them to a suspect, who was detained along with with others in a vehicle. But investigators learned that man had nothing to do with the shooting and he was released.

K9 units and a helicopter from New Jersey State Police were used in the search that followed the shooting. Police got reports of a shirtless man who matched the description of the shooter running from the scene, then running through yards in Fairless Hills.

He asked to use a phone at one home in the area, police said. Investigators also say the shooter may have thrown away a handgun somewhere in the area, and are urging anyone who finds it to call 911.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Detective Dennis Oconnell at 215-949-9100, Ext. 416 or d.oconnell@fallstwp.com.
