Falls Resident Hospitalized After Fire

There was another fire Sunday in Falls on a barge that was being used to shoot off fireworks, officials said Tuesday.

FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — An early-morning fire Tuesday in Falls Township sent one resident to the hospital, according to officials.

Fire Marshal Richard Dippolito said the fire was reported at 4:50 a.m. at Lakeview Terrace Apartments, at 251 S. Olds Blvd. Firefighters arrived to find an apartment on fire and all of its occupants out of the building.

The fire, which happened in a bedroom, was quickly extinguished, Dippolito said, but the apartment was left uninhabitable. He said the occupant of the apartment was taken to the hospital with breathing difficulties.

The fire continued what has been a busy few days for firefighters in Falls Township. Other blazes to which they have responded include:

  • On Thursday, July 4, a house fire on Nutmeg Lane in North Park was caused after the homeowner put fireworks or sparklers in a trashcan, Dippolito said. The fire melted siding on the house, but was extinguished by the homeowner.
  • A fire in an unoccupied truck was reported on Friday, July 5, on Philadelphia Avenue.
  • On Sunday, July 7, a barge with fireworks on it caught fire on Penn Warner Lake. Dippolito said the owner had been lighting fireworks on the barge. Firefighters let the fire burn itself out because of the fireworks that were still burning and exploding on the barge, he said.
  • On Monday, July 8, a small fire that was extinguished by a neighbor was reported in the Midway mobile home park.
