Giovanni’s Dillicious Pickles Tries To Rebuild

The Croydon business has been temporarily closed due to a pipe burst from a recent storm. A fundraiser has been launched.

CROYDON, PA — A popular pickle business is trying to rebuild after a pipe burst from a recent winter storm forced its temporary closure.

Therese Garvey, a worker at Giovanni’s Dillicious Pickles, launched a fundraiser to help the business. She said a pipe burst in the apartment above the restaurant and water poured straight into the kitchen.

"It came through the ceiling, into the equipment, onto the floors. The entire kitchen is unusable right now," Garvey said.

The GoFundMe page has raised over $13,000 of its $16,000 goal.

Garvey said the accident happened on a day that the business was closed. She said that no staff were there, no customers were inside, and no one was hurt.

"But the damage is significant, and we are closed until further notice," Garvey said.

She said the owners have always helped the community, and she hopes the community will now help the owners.

"Giovanni’s is more than a restaurant. It is part of this community," Garvey said. "Gabby will say they will figure it out. She always does. But this is one of those moments where she should not have to figure it out alone."

Garvey said that Giovanni's was open during power outages so families could warm up, fed people who could not afford a meal, adopted families at Christmas, raised money for local children, and donated to schools, sports teams, and community drives.

"She has given gift cards to people going through hard times," Garvey said. "She has shown up for this community again and again."

She does all of that while raising five kids and running this business every single day.

Garvey said that funds raised are not meant to replace insurance. They are meant to bridge the gap while insurance processes and while repairs begin. They help cleanup start immediately instead of waiting weeks. They help stabilize the business so reopening can happen sooner.
