Harry S. Truman HS Goes Green With Solar Panels

The school's Environmental Club raised over $7,000 to have solar panels installed.

Harry S. Truman High School took another step into the future today as solar panels were installed on the school.

The school's Environmental Club raised over $7,000 over the last eight years through fundraiser and recycling days. And that's enough to slap some panels on the school.

Exact Solar, a Yardley-based solar panel provider and installer, decided to help the school out by installing the panels.

The school had 12 solar panels installed that can run about five classrooms simultaneously for an entire year without issue.

With the club achieving a goal of getting solar panels installed under the leadership of director Lars McGee and co-director Karen Privatello, it hopes to continue adding more panels over the years to convert a larger portion of the school's energy source to solar.

While the club said its unsure of the cost savings to the school, its grateful for the chance to go green and thanked Exact Solar's owners Dara and Mark Bortman for donating their time and paying for the majority of the solar panel installation. The club said it would not have achieved its goal without their help.

Exact Solar will be maintaining the panels if and when maintenance is needed.
