BUCKS COUNTY, PA —A new leader has emerged in the 142nd Legislative District race, shifting the race after the Bucks County Board of Elections updated its unofficial election results.

Democrat Mark Moffa now leads Republican Joseph Hogan by two votes after the Board of Elections updated its tallies in which voter turnout ticked up from 64.9 percent to 65 percent.

A Moffa victory would give the Democrats majority control of the House at 102 members.

Hogan had held a five-vote lead as of early Wednesday morning with 100 percent of the precincts reporting, but that didn't account for absentee and mail-in ballots that the elections board had partially reported.

"Here’s an update on where we stand," Moffa posted on his Mark Moffa for PA 142 Facebook page. We are currently ahead by 2 votes."

As of Thursday afternoon, Moffa had 15,095 votes —or 49.90 percent —while Hogan had garnered 15,093 votes —or 49.89 percent —in unofficial results.

Hogan could not be reached for comment Thursday.

The 142nd Legislative District consists of Penndel, Middletown Township, Langhorne, Langhorne Manor, Lower Southampton Township and parts of Northampton Township.

The 142nd district results could also tip the balance of power in the state house for the first time in 12 years to Democratic Party control.

According to State Sen. Steve Santarsiero, a Moffa win would give the Democrats majority control of the House at 102 members.

“There’s another seat in Montgomery County, which I believe we’re also going to win, which will make it 103,” said Santarsiero, chairman of the Bucks County Democratic Committee.

Democrats held a press conference Wednesday to tout Tuesday’s General Election in Bucks County an historic victory for the party.

Moffa told supporters that there are hundreds of provisional and mail-in votes yet to be reviewed and counted by the Board of Elections.

"So at this point we are all waiting for the process to play out. It’s important that all of the votes are counted," he said. And we are confident that after all of the votes are counted, we will win.
