Levittown Neighborhoods To Be Sprayed For West Nile Mosquitoes

The county is planning a mosquito spray Monday in some Levittown neighborhoods.

The Bucks County Mosquito Control Program announced Thursday that it will conduct an ultra-low volume mosquito control operation to reduce high populations of mosquitoes capable of transmitting West Nile Virus on Monday, August 13, in parts of Bristol and Middletown townships. Also to be sprayed is the Middletown Grange Fairgrounds in Wrightstown, the site of the annual Grange Fair to kick off next week.

"The equipment dispenses Duet Dual-Action Adulticide at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre or DeltaGard at a rate 0.75 ounces per acre. These products are designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. These application materials have a very low toxicity profile to mammals and will have negligible impact to non-target insects and the environment," the county said.

The Mill Creek area in Bristol Township, bounded by New Falls Road, Oxford Valley Road, Mill Drive, Route 276, and Route 413, will be sprayed. The areas to receive treatment in Middletown Township are the Frosty Hollow County Park area, bounded by Frosty Hollow Road, Oxford Valley Road, New Falls Road and Route 413, and the Cobalt Area Greenway bounded by Cobalt Ridge Drive South, Cobalt Cross Road, Camellia Road, and Quincy Drive.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, all residents in areas where virus activity has been identified are at risk of contracting West Nile encephalitis, the county explained.

If the weather is not conducive for a spray on Monday, it will be done Tuesday.
