June is national headache awareness month and according to the National Headache Foundation, over 45 million Americans suffer from chronic, recurring headaches and of these, 28 million suffer from migraines. About 20% of children and adolescents also experience significant headaches.

A headache, or as the medical doctor calls it, cephalalgia is classified as pain anywhere in the region of the head or neck. It can be a symptom of a number of different conditions of the head and neck.

There are several types of headaches; in fact, 150 diagnostic headache categories have been established, and the causes of each headache range from harmless to life-threatening. The description of the headache, together with findings on neurological examination will determine the need for any further investigation and the most appropriate treatment.

The most common types of headache are the "primary headache disorders", such as tension-type headache and migraines. Primary headaches account for more than 90% of all headache complaints and for the most part respond extremely well to chiropractic care.

“I urge anyone who has ever had a headache to get to a chiropractor, and get checked during headache awareness month (June). You will be surprised how easy it is to rid yourself of headaches forever!”
