Man, 23, Killed In Falls Motorcycle Crash: Report

A Falls Township police officer was driving the opposite way and said the motorcycle appeared to be speeding moments before the crash.

FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Falls Towship are investigating the death of a 23-year-old man who was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday night.

Police on Tuesday identified the man as Matthew Thomas, of Lower Makefield, The Intelligencer reports. Police Lt. Henry Ward said Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened shortly after 11 p.m. Friday on New Falls Road near Thornridge Pass.

The paper quotes Ward saying that Thomas's motorcycle caught fire after it collided with the back end of another vehicle traveling on the road. A Falls Township police officer saw Thomas's motorcycle pass him while driving in the opposite direction and said it appeared to be speeding, Ward said.

His motorcycle appeared to go faster as it passed the officer, then the officer heard a loud crash, he said. The officer had not yet activated his car's lights or sirens when the crash happened, according to Ward.
