Maple Avenue Bridge Closure Pushed Back a Week

The closure of the Maple Avenue Bridge has been pushed back until next week, officials announced Monday. 

Due to the installation of a temporary traffic signal on the detour route, the bridge will not close until Monday, July 21. It was originally supposed to close this Tuesday.

Once it closes, crews will work to replace the bridge, which was deemed structurally deficient. A roundabout will be built to improve travel through the intersection of Maple Avenue and Bridgetown Pike in Middletown and Lower Southampton townships. 

The new Maple Avenue bridge will be 226 feet long and 31 feet wide, which is eight feet wider than the existing span. It will feature two 11-foot travel lanes, a five-foot shoulder and a four-foot shoulder. 

“The bridge will be adorned with aesthetic treatments to resemble the current bridge, including concrete sidewalls and enclosed concrete arches, and a maple leaf imprint atop the columns on each pier,” according to information from Middletown Township.

The Detour for passenger cars is via Old Lincoln Highway, Bristol Road and Bridgetown Pike. Trucks will follow the detour of Lincoln Highway, Street Road and Bustleton Pike.
