MIDDLETOWN, PA — A development that would bring roughly 600 apartments to the Oxford Valley Mall property moved a step closer to reality on Wednesday.

Middletown's planning commission unanimously voted to recommend that supervisors approve the project. To build it, developers need a rezoning request granted to allow residential units among what is now mostly retail property.

Developer Cornerstone Tracy is seeking a rezoning that would allow them to build two apartment buildings at the mall. The development would be done in two phases, with the first building holding about 390 units and the second holding about 200-220.

At Wednesday's meeting, several residents reportedly spoke, worried that the development will worsen already congested traffic in the area.

The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors is expected to review the plan at their meeting on Sept. 16 and could give final approval to it as early as next month.
